NEWS: House Finance Committee Bypasses Budget Savings and New Revenue by Continuing Unsustainable Subsidies for the Oil and Gas Industry
Juneau – Tonight, the House Finance Committee passed out House Bill 247 sponsored by Alaska Governor Bill Walker. The version of the bill approved by the committee is substantially different than the version of the bill put forward by Governor Walker. The new version of the bill includes less than half of the savings anticipated in the original bill.

NEWS: Democratic Lawmakers Call on the Alaska Aerospace Corporation to Return Unused State Money
Juneau – Today, Representatives Les Gara (D-Anchorage), David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks), and Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage) issued a call for the state run Alaska Aerospace Corporation to return most of the remaining funds left unspent from the roughly $98 million in state general funds appropriated since 2009.

Rep. Guttenberg’s Newsletter: Minority Proposes “Caucus of the Whole”
Yesterday the democratic coalition rolled out a compromise message to the legislature. The minority leaders from both the house and the senate proposed a “caucus of the whole”—a unified legislature—one which works together and removes partisanship in the legislature to aid in moving forward in finding a solution to the budget deficit.
