The session is moving rapidly and our office is working hard to put information and issues out to our constituents back home. Since we are already 30 days through with 60 days remaining, the ideas and issues change daily. Here’s an update of what I’ve been working on.
Read More →This week a major piece of legislation that will have widespread impacts on the state of Alaska passed quickly through the House of Representatives without much public input. HB80 and SB29 were introduced by Governor Parnell to roll back the citizens’ 2006 initiative. The public initiative held the cruise ship industry accountable for the ship discharge in Alaska waters by setting standards for discharge. The industry had from 2006 to 2015 to implement the upgrades to the ships to meet the outflow standard goals.

We have completed the first two weeks of the 28th Legislature and things are moving very quickly with the budget and financial overviews, bills in committees and constituent requests. Here are some highlights for the week.
Read More →I made a commitment to you yesterday on the House floor to work hard as your Fairbanks Representative. Over the next 90 days, we will be working on issues ranging from the high cost of energy, to quality education, to enhancing the economy and writing a lean and efficient budget. It will be a challenging order to get all of the work of the state done, but I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves once again.

With the election behind us it’s now time to roll up our sleeves and get to work as we prepare for the 28th Legislative Session, which will begin on January 15th. My office will continue to be open for your legislative needs until we transition to Juneau in early January. You are always welcome to call, email or drop by in person. As we prepare for a new session it is helpful to get feedback and hear your legislative requests.
