NEWS: Rep. Josephson Applauds Approval of Federal Ban on Plastic Microbeads That Endanger Fish and Wildlife

Rep. Andrew Josephson ANCHORAGE — On Monday, December 28, 2015, President Obama signed into law the “Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015.” The legislation phases out the use of small plastic microbeads that are often used in cosmetics and personal hygiene products. Manufacturing of products using microbeads will be phased out by July 1, 2017. The sale of products containing microbeads will be phased out by July 1, 2018.

Alaska state and flag ANCHORAGE – Today, the Food and Drug Administration, for the first time ever, approved the human consumption of a genetically modified animal. The FDA approved AquaBounty Technologies application to raise a genetically modified fast growing Atlantic salmon despite widespread concerns about the health risks to humans and negative impacts to wild salmon populations.

NEWS: Legislation Introduced to Expand the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge

Alaska state and flag JUNEAU - Today Rep. Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) and Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) introduced legislation to expand the popular Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in Fairbanks. House Bill 70 would add four state owned parcels to the popular recreation area. Rep’s Wool and Kawasaki both cited their personal experiences with the refuge as inspiration for sponsoring this bill.
