The House voted this week to suspend non-budget related committee hearings. This move allows us to focus on budget topics. Budget subcommittee meetings have been extended and the House Finance Committee is meeting daily. Yesterday, the Finance Committee hosted a “Budget 101,” which is a helpful resource to understanding budget documents. I will keep you as informed as possible as we go through the next few weeks on opportunities for public testimony and other community events.

This will be a fun and informal opportunity to discuss the budget, the governor’s proposed fiscal plan, and the other issues that are important to you. Juneau – Fairbanks area residents are invited to a community meeting Saturday afternoon in Fairbanks. The town hall meeting is being sponsored by House Finance Committee member Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) and House Health and Social Services Committee member Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks). The meeting will be a fun opportunity for people to discuss legislative and community issues with Reps. Kawasaki and Wool in an informal setting.

ANCHORAGE – Senator Berta Gardner (D-Anchorage), Rep. Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage), and Rep. Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage) will host a town hall constituent meeting this Saturday at the West Romig Library from 10am to 11:30am, for residents of Spenard, Midtown, and the UMed district. The meeting will be held in advance of the Second Session of the 29th Alaska Legislature, which begins on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in Juneau.
