We are half way through the 2012 Legislative Session. What happens in the next 45 days is crucial to many Alaskans. In the Interior, we need energy relief, jobs and education funding. I will continue to work on issues important to the Interior. Public Testimony: Operating Budget The House Finance Committee will take public testimony this week on the FY13 Operating Budget. Rep. Kerttula’s Juneau News: Public Testimony on the Capital Budget

Earlier today, the Senate Finance Committee passed out their version of the capital budget (SB 46), which will be on the Senate Floor tonight. The House has also introduced changes to the House version of the capital budget (HB 107). You have the chance to testify on those budgets tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. before the House Finance Committee on the fifth floor of the Capitol Building. It’s unusual to have two different versions of the capital budget, but the House will probably put a lot of their changes into the Senate version and that will be the one that is ultimately passed. If you’re interested in a particular project, you may want to come and express your support to the committee.

Rep. Tuck’s Community Connection: Public Testimony Opportunities: Oil Tax Proposal; Constituent Meeting

The House Finance Committee will be holding its first public hearings on the Governor’s oil tax bill (HB 110) this Thursday and Friday. This proposed bill would give more than $10 billion over the next 5 years to the oil industry in a bid to get more oil in the pipeline. I am very supportive of more oil production and more jobs for Alaskans. However, information discovered during review of HB 110 has raised serious questions about the best way to spur more oil production and jobs. Below is a longer discussion of the oil tax issue.
