The best part about the interim is being home to reconnect with my constituents, and to listen to what matters to them. It is with tremendous sadness that I write on the traumatic passing of two Alaska State Troopers. Sgt. Scott Johnson and Trooper Gabe Rich were killed last week in the village of Tanana after an altercation that is still under investigation. I knew these honorable men and they exemplified everything it means to be a law enforcement officer and an Alaskan. I am proud of the support shown by our great city to the families and friends of Gabe and Scott. They will be in our hearts and minds for the weeks to come.

I want to thank everyone who came to my Town Hall Meeting this past weekend. We had a great turnout and it was evident that Fairbanksans have been paying close attention to what’s going on in Juneau. It was also clear that there is frustration because of the lack of action. I share that frustration. I will continue to fight for everyday Alaskans to improve our public education system, ensure Alaskans get their fair share for our resources, and make sure that corporate money doesn’t overpower your voices.
