As many of you may know, the Anchorage School District will be starting school tomorrow on Tuesday, August 16th.
Besides a change of pace for families with children, the character of our neighborhoods will change too. Anyone who lives near a school knows how busy early morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times can get.
Please watch out for flashing yellow lights around school zones and remember to be conscientious and use safe driving practices to keep our future generations safe, healthy and productive in the new school year!

One of the most important functions of the state is to provide for the education of the next generation of Alaskans. The real job is undertaken by parents, teachers, support staff and administration, but it is up to the state to fund that effort. With just over a week to go in session, it finally looks like an increase in education funding has gotten some traction. This may be in part because the revenue forecast that came out this week projected an extra $3.4 billion in surplus revenues over the next two years.

JUNEAU – Today Representative Pete Petersen announced he will introduce legislation to protect Alaska schools from the rising costs of inflation. For the next budget year, Petersen’s proposal would increase the base student allocation $158.00, the exact amount required to offset inflation. …
