NEWS: Indigenous Peoples Day Legislation Passes House State Affairs Committee

Juneau — Today, the House State Affairs Committee passed legislation introduced by Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage) to designate Indigenous Peoples Day in Alaska. The bill now goes to the House Rules Committee to be scheduled for a vote on the floor of the Alaska House of Representatives.

I have been fortunate all summer to attend many community events, meeting with friends, new and old, from our midtown district as well as the greater Anchorage area. Recently, I took a trip to the Interior to attend the Chena Renewable Energy Fair as part of my duties with the House Special Committee on Energy. While I was in the north country, I had several other meetings to better educate myself on issues facing Alaskans.

JUNEAU - In order to make voting easier for Alaskans who have difficulty getting to their polling place, Representative Pete Petersen (D-Anchorage) introduced legislation today to allow Alaskans the option to register as permanent absentee voters.
