Good news for my friends and neighbors in Anchorage: there are two important events coming up this Saturday, February 22nd. First, if there is an issue before the Alaska Legislature that you are concerned about or supportive of, please come and speak up to the Anchorage Caucus from 9:00am to 2:00pm in the Assembly Chambers at the Loussac Library. It was just announced that House Joint Resolution 1 (HJR1), the bill that would allow for the amending of the Alaska Constitution to provide public funds for private and religious schools, will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, February 9th, at 1:00pm

The Legislature continues to rush forward with the governor’s massive and ill-conceived giveaway of Alaska’s oil wealth at a frantic pace, hoping to get the bill passed before the 90 day session concludes on April 14. As I have stated before, this bill will give billions of dollars from the state treasury to the wealthiest and most profitable corporations in the world - with no promise or guarantee of increased production or investment in Alaska.
