Rep. Geran Tarr JUNEAU – Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) proposed legislation (HB355) to authorize the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to administer a Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training program and accompanying grants. Youth Mental Health First Aid training teaches trainees to detect mental illnesses and substance abuse issues and how to respond effectively to them.

NEWS: Gara, Kawasaki Introduce Bi-Partisan Redistricting Proposal

Alaska state and flag JUNEAU – Today Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) filed a constitutional amendment to end Alaska’s process of partisan, one-party-controlled redistricting. If passed and ratified by Alaskan voters, the bi-partisan redistricting legislation would let Alaska join nine other states with either non-partisan or bi-partisan redistricting, according to a report by the legislature’s Legislative Research Services.

Alaska state and flag JUNEAU – Today, Representative David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks), Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) and Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage), and Senator Bill Wielechowski (D-Anchorage) welcomed the Pentagon’s announcement that Eielson Air Force Base outside Fairbanks and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage are two of the five Pacific military bases the Air Force is considering to station the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
