Tuck Newsletter Recently Governor Walker issued a proclamation calling for a legislative special session to convene in Juneau on October 24 to address two key topics: First, we will explore putting in place a gas reserves tax on undeveloped North Slope natural gas. Currently, companies purchasing leases from the state have a contractual obligation to bring profitable gas to market. However, without a reserves tax there is little means to enforce this “duty to produce” other than by revoking the leases.

Claman's Alaska Matters This morning, Anchorage woke up to snow on the ground and a new equal rights ordinance. Both events are exciting in their own way. The ordinance the Assembly passed late last night makes it illegal to discriminate over sexual orientation or gender identity. Supported by our business community, this ordinance is one of the many reasons Anchorage is such a great place to live, work, and play!

Rep. Gara Newsletter I’m proud that I’ve been frugal with your money. I’ve run the lowest cost office in the Legislature for many years, and in other years I’ve barely missed being the lowest cost office to an even cheaper legislator. Though in fairness, office costs include travel to Juneau for the Legislative Session, and Legislators from parts of rural Alaska have to ship their personal belongings to Juneau every year. They can’t avoid having much higher travel costs than someone who lives in Anchorage.
