This week, I am sending this newsletter reminding you to join Senator Joe Thomas, Representative David Guttenberg, and me for a constituent meeting this weekend at the West Valley High School Library. It will take place on Sunday, February 19th, from 1-3 PM.
These get-togethers are one of my favorite parts about being a legislator, as they provide a great opportunity for us to talk directly with you. I hope you’ll stop by, have a cup of coffee, and then share some of your thoughts and ideas about what’s going on in Juneau.

Berta’s Briefings from Rep. Gardner: Safety is on My Mind

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Samantha Koenig who was tragically abducted from a coffee stand in Midtown where she worked. I know the Anchorage Police Department, the FBI, Samantha’s family, and the Anchorage community, are doing everything they can to bring Samantha home. We are all waiting for the news that she has been rescued and is safe.

Public testimony is an extremely important part of the democratic process. I often hear about the lack of interest in the political system today. I still find that hard to believe. Today, there are several opportunities to become engaged in an issue that is important to you. I’ve sponsored two bills that are scheduled to be heard in House committees that directly focus on SAFETY and FISH.
