Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: A Fast-Moving Update on Bills on the Go
March 28, 2012
Simply put, there are a lot of bills moving and very few weeks left of session. Through extended committee meetings and late night floor sessions, bills are flying through committees, sometimes taking on an ever-so-different look than when they were originally introduced. Here are a few of the more prevalent bills gaining attention around the building and throughout communities statewide to keep you up-to-date. These are important bills that align with the priorities I have worked on this session: Education, Energy, and the Economy.

Note from Rep. Les Gara: Now You Don’t See It, Now You Do - Big Knik Bridge $ubsidy
March 26, 2012
The state’s no longer on the hook to guarantee to cover all financial losses for the private contractor who will build and operate the proposed Knik Arm Bridge. Oh wait. News flash! Yes it will.

Rep. Kerttula’s Juneau Newsletter: Women’s History Month
March 26, 2012
March is Women’s History Month, and on March 16, there was a fantastic lunch in honor of women legislators throughout Alaska’s history. Not only were current women legislators present, but also past women legislators and their families, along with the family members of women legislators who have passed on. It was a memorable and inspiring event. I remembered that when a bill was heard last week that would have severely limited a woman’s right to choice. I felt much more empowered thinking of the strong women who came before me as well as those with whom I serve.
Thank you for reading my newsletter. I appreciate hearing from you, so please stop by the office, call, write or email.
