Success: Compromise Reached on Healy Coal Restart
I applaud the decision reached between the Environmental Protection Agency, Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, and Golden Valley Electrical Association to move forward with the restart of the dormant coal plant in Healy. For years I have supported the restart of the plant, under the stipulation that it could be accomplished in an environmentally responsible, efficient manner that kept the best interests of the ratepayers under consideration. I believe the terms of this exciting announcement does exactly that, and can finally offer Fairbanks some tangible relief from burdensome energy bills without ignoring the need to address our air quality challenges.

One important role of a state legislator is to help constituents with problems with government agencies. Whether the matter relates to PFDs, child support, or road improvements we can often cut through the clutter of competing issues or excuses and spur agencies into response and solutions.
A current example: After the recent wind and rain storms, I received calls about flooding and drainage issues in the Midtown area. One resident expressed concern about drainage along Rakof Drive, adjacent to the new Campbell Creek bike trail, where Seward Highway upgrade work is in progress.

Do you think multinational corporations should have more of a vote than you and your family? I know the answer is NO. So - if you’re not registered to vote; need to update your address; or have friends and family who need to do that, please tell them. Because today we live in a world where multinational corporations can donate as much as they want. Your power is your vote.

As United States citizens, one of our most cherished rights is our right to vote. With the November 6 elections upon us, I wanted to let you know about an important deadline: THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7 IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE OR CHANGE YOUR REGISTRATION (such as an address change).
To register or update your information, simply fill out, sign and submit your voter registration form to any of the Division of Elections offices across the state. Registration forms can be submitted by mail, by fax or by email.
