NEWS: Border Closure Between Hyder and Stewart, B.C. Prompts Visit by Rep. Dan Ortiz To Meet With Area Residents and Canadian Officials

Rep. Dan Ortiz Juneau - The Canadian Border Services Agency plans to close the border between Hyder, Alaska and Stewart, B.C. between midnight and 8 a.m. beginning April 1.  CBSA cites cost as a main reason for the planned border closure. Currently, the border crossing is staffed 24 hours a day to allow residents and visitors to use the only road entry point into Hyder.  District 36 Representative Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan) plans to spend the next several days meeting with Hyder residents and Canadian officials in an effort to find a solution to the problem.

Rep. Kawasaki's Juneau Note I will be in town this weekend and will host a public a public forum on Saturday to give Fairbanksans an update on the progress of the 29th Alaska Legislature. The forum will be held at the Raven Landing Center 1222 Cowles Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I look forward to reconnecting with Fairbanks and spending my birthday weekend at home.

NEWS: Rep. Kawasaki to Host Constituent Meeting

Rep. Scott Kawasaki Fairbanks – Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) will host a constituent meeting Saturday to update Fairbanksans on the progress of the 29th Alaska Legislature. The forum will be held in the Raven Landing Center at 1222 Cowles Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fairbanksans are invited to discuss a variety of topics including the current budget, natural gas, education, marijuana and Medicaid expansion.
