Last week, Governor Walker issued a proclamation calling the legislature into a special session to address gasline issues. On October 24, we will head down to Juneau to address some key issues: To reinstate a reserve tax on North Slope resources in the ground that are not developed and a proposal to buy TransCanada’s share of the gas pipeline and gas treatment facility. I am excited to work on these issues and hope that others can make the necessary steps to come together and move forward for Alaska.

It’s that time of year again! PFD’s have been deposited into Alaskan bank accounts; snow is starting to gather on the mountain, and the hum of studs on the road can be heard all through the town. As we get ready to transition into winter again I wanted to bring your attention to two important upcoming events. The first is a Municipal Planning and Zoning meeting on the proposed U-Med Road, while the other is about the Governor’s recent announcement that he would be calling the legislature into another special session.

This morning, Anchorage woke up to snow on the ground and a new equal rights ordinance. Both events are exciting in their own way. The ordinance the Assembly passed late last night makes it illegal to discriminate over sexual orientation or gender identity. Supported by our business community, this ordinance is one of the many reasons Anchorage is such a great place to live, work, and play!
