NEWS: Legislators Propose Major Overhaul of Alaska’s Code of Military Justice

Rep. Chris Tuck Juneau – Legislation to overhaul Alaska’s seldom used and outdated Code of Military Justice was introduced today in both the Alaska House and Senate. A recent non-partisan legislative research report detailed shortcomings in the Alaska Code of Military Justice and found that the leadership of the Alaska National Guard was largely unaware that the Code even existed. The legislation is sponsored by Senator Bill Wielechowski (D-Anchorage) and Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Leader Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage).

NEWS: Guttenberg Hails Veteran Cemetery Process

Rep. David Guttenberg Representative David Guttenberg (D-Interior/Wade Hampton) today praised news that officials of the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) signed a land sales agreement to dedicate 320 acres near Fairbanks as Alaska’s Interior Veterans Cemetery. A long-time advocate for an Interior cemetery, Rep. Guttenberg sponsored the 2005 bill designating the new facility and directing DMVA to construct it. That measure ultimately led to passage of a similar bill in 2009, sponsored by Senator Charlie Huggins (R-Wasilla), establishing the cemetery and creating the Alaska Veterans Cemetery Fund.
