Claman's Alaska Matters On Tuesday, Governor Walker introduced a Medicaid expansion and reform bill. Earlier this session, I explained in this electronic newsletter why I support increasing access to affordable healthcare to more Alaskans while boosting our state’s economy. Over 75% of those who responded to our constituent survey support Medicaid expansion. I will continue to support Medicaid expansion for those reasons.

Rep. Claman’s Newsletter: Operating Budget Continues

Claman's Alaska Matters The House voted on the Operating Budget just after midnight on Thursday night and it is now on its way to the Senate for further consideration. I have some concerns with this version of the budget in light of the substantial cuts already proposed by the Walker-Mallott Administration. Approving the budget is a continuing process that we will follow closely in the weeks ahead. As always, I value feedback from West Anchorage residents and neighbors in order to better represent you. NEWS: The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Unites in Opposition to Operating Budget that Harms Kids, Seniors and the Neediest of Alaskans

Alaska state and flag Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Thursday night without the support of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition. All 13 members voted no because the budget harms seniors and children while protecting corporate interests and unaffordable projects. The Republican budget includes the total elimination of pre-k programs and a significant $32 million cut in funding for K-12 public education. Overall, the budget deficit still remains $3.5 billion. The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition proposed millions of dollars in spending cuts while supporting efforts to protect education, seniors and kids.
