NEWS: Ten Days Left in Session - Still No Erin’s Law

Rep. Tarr and Erin Merryn JUNEAU – There are now 10 days left in the first session of the 29th Alaska Legislature but there is still no movement on legislation to implement Erin’s Law in Alaska. Erin’s Law has been proven in many other states to prevent child sexual abuse by requiring public school districts to offer prevention curriculum.

NEWS: House Lawmakers Seek to Establish Statewide Pre-Kindergarten Program

Alaska state and flag Juneau – Representative’s Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), Les Gara (D-Anchorage), Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage), Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage), Sam Kito III (D-Juneau) and Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan) have pre-filed legislation to create a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program to prepare Alaska’s children for entry into the education system.

Rep. Andy Josephson’s Newsletter: A Time to Learn: Committees and Conferences

While the legislature is out of session, bills cannot be passed by the House or Senate to become law; however, committees do meet for informational hearings on specific issues or pieces of legislation. I have spent the past couple of weeks (with the exception of several wonderful hikes around town in the gorgeous weather!) attending committee hearings and conferences to become a better informed representative.
