NEWS: Rep. Tuck Applauds Unanimous Approval of a New Code of Military Justice for the Alaska National Guard

JUNEAU – The Alaska Senate voted unanimously Sunday night in favor of House Bill 126 to reform the Alaska National Guard by creating a Code of Military Justice based on the federal Uniform Code of Military Justice. The code has not been updated since 1955, and most Guard members did not know a Code of Military Justice existed. HB 126 passed the Alaska House of Representatives in February, also by a unanimous vote. The new Code of Military Justice lays out the process to deal with members of the Alaska National Guard who violate military rules and orders.

Juneau – Today, a Superior Court judge invalidated the Alaska Legislature’s expensive no-bid lease for the Anchorage Legislative Information Office. Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition (AIDC) Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) praised today’s ruling.

Last week my Republican colleagues voted to sue Governor Walker for his decision to move forward with Medicaid expansion. I did not support moving forward with a lawsuit because a majority of Alaskans support Medicaid expansion, because Medicaid expansion will save the state hundreds of millions of dollars, because Republican leadership refused to hear expansion and reform bills during the special sessions, and because at a time when we are cutting essential state services we don’t need to waste money on a costly lawsuit suing ourselves.

NEWS: Lawmakers Applaud Superior Court Decision to Allow Medicaid Expansion to Proceed in Alaska

ANCHORAGE – Today, Superior Court Judge Frank Pfiffner denied the Legislative Council’s request to stop the implementation of Medicaid expansion in early September. The ruling is being praised by the members of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition (AIDC).
