With the summer well upon us, I hope everyone is able to stay dry, warm and safe! I have been traveling around the district listening to and hearing from everyone as I go. I spent some time in Skagway hosting a constituent meeting and speaking before the Skagway Assembly. I also had an opportunity to host a constituent meeting here in Juneau with Senator Egan. I traveled to Gustavus for their Centennial Celebration and toured the Falls Creek Hydro facility and the Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center.

On May 9, 2014, the Anchorage Police gathered with Troopers, the Coast Guard, local firefighters, and members of the public to commemorate Alaska Police Memorial Day. The ceremony honored the 65 men and women who have died in the line of service in Alaska, and a program was handed out so that those who gathered could learn about the departed. I attended this beautiful ceremony at the Alaska Police Memorial off of Tudor, along with Senator Hollis French and representatives from the police department, the fire department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

NEWS: Legislature Creates Dr. Walter Soboleff Day

Today, the Alaska state Senate voted unanimously to set aside November 14 of each year to honor the life and work of Dr. Walter A Soboleff, a revered Tlingit elder who passed away in 2011 at the age of 102. Late last month, the Alaska state House passed the measure which now goes to the governor for his signature.
