Last week, I updated you about April being Child Abuse Prevention month. April is also national Sexual Assualt Awareness month. Today, in the House State Affairs Committee, we heard a resolution from Senate President Meyer officially designating April 2016 as Sexual Assualt Awareness month in Alaska. The movement to reduce sexual violence in Alaska has been on-going for a long-time now, and according to testimony I heard today it is showing some success-rates of reported sexual violence fell between 2010 and 2015.

NEWS: House Resources Committee Misses Opportunity to Help Close $4 Billion Budget Gap

Juneau – Much of the savings associated with Governor Bill Walker’s proposed reform to Alaska’s flawed and overly expensive oil and gas tax credit system has been lost because of the actions of the House Resources Committee. House Bill 247 was passed out of the committee tonight. The original bill was significantly altered by members of the House Majority to remove $450 million in savings and new revenue.

NEWS: Democrats in the Alaska House of Representatives Will Quickly Consider Governor Walker’s Choice for House District 16 State Representative

Juneau – The Democrats in the Alaska House of Representatives will meet as soon as possible to deliberate on Governor Walker’s choice of Ivy Spohnholz to replace the late Representative Max Gruenberg as the Representative for House District 16.
