Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) introduced two bills aimed at increasing food security in Alaska. One measure would increase the amount of food Alaska agencies buy from local sources, and the second measure would require genetically modified (GMO) food products sold in Alaska to be labeled as such.

Rep. Tarr Wins Support for Alaska Seafood Labeling
Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) persuaded the Agriculture Work Group at the Pacific Northwest Economic Region summit not to oppose country of origin (COOL) labeling for seafood in its Action Plan. While some in the beef and pork industry want to eliminate COOL labeling, Alaska seafood producers support labeling.

Findings that GM salmon can breed with wild fish are alarming
Anchorage - Today Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) submitted a letter to the FDA asking them to take into consideration a recently published study from McGill University that shows that genetically modified salmon are capable of breeding with wild fish.

ADVISORY: Rep. Tarr to Introduce GM Labeling Bill

JUNEAU - Today Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) announced she will introduce legislation requiring labeling for genetically modified foods sold in Alaska. She made the announcement at today’s March Against Monsanto, an event that had some 400 people in attendance.
Today’s Anchorage march was part of an international event happening in over 400 cities across the globe.
