Rep. Tarr and Erin Merryn Anchorage - Among the pre-filed bills announced today is “Erin’s Law” offered by Rep. Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage). “Erin’s Law” is a proven, straightforward approach to addressing one of Alaska’s most insidious social ills - child sexual abuse. “Erin’s Law” would require school districts to present students with age-appropriate curriculum about personal body safety. It would also give teachers, staff, and administrators the tools they need to respond properly to allegations of child sexual abuse.

NEWS: Legislation to be Pre-filed to Give Alaska Kids the Tools to Prevent Child Abuse

Rep. Geran Tarr Anchorage – In advance of the start of the 29th Alaska Legislature in January, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) will pre-file legislation to enact “Erin’s Law” in Alaska. The bill is identical to H.B. 233, which was taken up during the 2nd session of the 28th Alaska Legislature. H.B. 233 had over 20 cosponsors and was supported by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. There is widespread support from parents, teachers, and child abuse survivors to pass the law.

NEWS: Rep. Tarr Applauds New Fairbanks Borough School Policy

Rep. Geran Tarr Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) today welcomed the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board’s unanimous adoption of “Erin’s Policy.” The measure directs the district to teach students techniques for recognizing and reporting sexual abuse, and train teachers and staff to recognize signs of abuse and how to respond to them. The Board approved the policy at their meeting Tuesday night.
