Rep. Scott Kawasaki We are sprinting towards the end of the 28th Alaska State Legislature and multiple bills are passing the House every day. As of this writing, we have more than 25 pieces of legislation that have passed out of committee and are waiting to be voted on in the House. My office has been working diligently to ensure everything is properly vetted before we vote. It is our duty as legislators to ensure we only pass legislation that is beneficial to all Alaskans and I will continue to work hard for Fairbanks and Alaskan families.

NEWS: Gara, Kawasaki Introduce Bi-Partisan Redistricting Proposal

Alaska state and flag JUNEAU – Today Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) filed a constitutional amendment to end Alaska’s process of partisan, one-party-controlled redistricting. If passed and ratified by Alaskan voters, the bi-partisan redistricting legislation would let Alaska join nine other states with either non-partisan or bi-partisan redistricting, according to a report by the legislature’s Legislative Research Services.

Rep. Scott Kawasaki JUNEAU – Representative Scott Kawasaki will host a final town hall meeting of this session in Fairbanks on Saturday, March 30th. The meeting will be held at the Noel Wien Library Conference Room from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Harriet Drummond Dear Friends and Neighbors, You may already be aware that earlier this week the Anchorage Daily News published a Compass article I wrote about the School Voucher discussion that is currently taking place in the capital. The Item in question is House Joint Resolution 1 (HJR1). HJR1 is an attempt to amend the language of the Alaskan Constitution, which currently states: “No money shall be paid from public funds for the direct benefit of any religious or other private educational institution.”
