Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the last week before school starts! Two of our schools, Airport Heights and Mountain View, are undergoing much needed renovations, and I’m excited that our students will benefit from these upgrades. For Mountain View, the big improvement is sound proofing! With all the military planes flying overhead there are times a teacher has to stop class because the noise is too much. Once completed, this shouldn’t happen anymore. Airport Heights will benefit from a little more space as well as improved areas for some programs. Stop by and take a look!

The upsetting news that of one our neighbors on Linda Lane has been shot during a break-in has heightened my concerns about the apparent rise in violent crime in our area and throughout Anchorage this summer.
It is my understanding that the suspect is still at large, heightening our need to be vigilant at all times.

Rep. Tarr’s Newsletter: Legislative Special Session #5

On Wednesday, the House sent a letter to the Senate inviting them to join us in a joint session on Friday to review the Governor’s budget vetoes – Friday being the last day for the Legislature to vote to override any of the Governor’s decisions. If you were following the special session on Monday, you may have seen that Senator Bill Wielechowski made a motion in the Senate for a joint session for veto overrides. At the time his motion was ruled out of order because the presiding officer said that typically the House invites the Senate. So, by sending a letter we followed the tradition of the House inviting the Senate. Turns out, that may have just been a stall tactic because upon receiving the letter from the House the Senate declined the invitation, effectively allowing the vetoes to stand.
