This session presented a number of challenges for Legislators, including the gasline bill, the omnibus education bill, and bills affecting ballot initiatives. Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: Back in Fairbanks!

It is with tremendous sadness that I write on the traumatic passing of two Alaska State Troopers. Sgt. Scott Johnson and Trooper Gabe Rich were killed last week in the village of Tanana after an altercation that is still under investigation. I knew these honorable men and they exemplified everything it means to be a law enforcement officer and an Alaskan. I am proud of the support shown by our great city to the families and friends of Gabe and Scott. They will be in our hearts and minds for the weeks to come.

Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: Legislature Adjourns After 95 Days

The Twenty-eighth Alaska State Legislature is adjourned and I’m thrilled to be headed back home. It was a whirlwind of a session with lots of incredibly important legislation debated on the floor. Just during the second half of this legislature we worked on an LNG export project, a massive education reform package, an overhaul of the criminal system and found various ways to streamline our state government. I worked tirelessly to ensure Fairbanksans’ needs were heard in Juneau.

ADVISORY: Rep. Kawasaki to Host Pizza and Politics Meeting this Weekend

Fairbanks – Representative Kawasaki will host a town hall meeting in Fairbanks on Sunday March 28. The meeting will be held in the Lathrop High School Cafeteria from 2:00pm until 4:00pm and pizza will be provided. Representative Kawasaki invites Fairbanksans to a discussion on a variety issues including the proposed AK LNG project, education funding and this year’s budget.

Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: Constituent Meeting, AWG, 1964 Earthquake Anniversary

We are sprinting towards the end of the 28th Alaska State Legislature and multiple bills are passing the House every day. As of this writing, we have more than 25 pieces of legislation that have passed out of committee and are waiting to be voted on in the House. My office has been working diligently to ensure everything is properly vetted before we vote. It is our duty as legislators to ensure we only pass legislation that is beneficial to all Alaskans and I will continue to work hard for Fairbanks and Alaskan families.
