As many of you will remember I sponsored House Bill 14, which would ban the use of microbeads in cosmetics in Alaska. Last month the Anchorage Bucs traveled to Fairbanks to take on the Goldpanners and I was honored to be asked to throw out the first pitch of the game. After an amazing pitch that flew right into the catcher’s glove, I was all but asked to be on the team. I was also delighted to accept an invitation to attend the opening ceremonies of the World Eskimo Indian Olympics, where I was able to be part of such a unique and important event that celebrates Alaskan Native diversity, heritage and culture

Rep. Claman’s Newsletter: Governor Expands Medicaid and Community Events

Last week, Governor Walker announced that he will use his executive authority to expand Medicaid and improve access to affordable healthcare to all Alaskans. While the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee now has 45 days to respond to the Governor’s decision, the Attorney General and the Legislature’s attorney agree that the Governor is within his Alaska Constitutional authority to accept Medicaid expansion. This decision is good for Alaska.
