Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Five days from now I will pack up the car and begin the drive to Haines, at which point I will board a ferry headed to Juneau. In my previous newsletter I may have mislead you regarding the start date of the legislative session. To be clear, the first day of session is Tuesday January 21, 2014. However, before I leave, I hope to see you all tomorrow night at Wendler Middle School from 5:30pm – 7pm to discuss the future of natural gas in Alaska with specialist Larry Persily. This time of year in Fairbanks is beautiful, if cold. I hope the warmth of the season reaches you as you spend time with family and loved ones. The interim has gone by quickly and I have been busy preparing for the upcoming Legislative session in January. NEWS: Democratic Legislators to Offer Alaska Health Care Solutions at Policy Forum

ANCHORAGE – Today, Senator Bill Wielechowski, Senator Hollis French, and Representative Geran Tarr will offer a set of policy ideas to improve health care options in Alaska at a public forum hosted by the non-partisan group, State of Reform. The legislators will host a panel discussion at 11:30 a.m. as part of the larger event that includes political and policy experts from around Alaska.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Tomorrow night’s Assembly meeting will include an opportunity for public testimony on the state grant funds appropriated by the Legislature to the Municipality of Anchorage in the capital budget. These funds include the $20 million dedicated to the Northern Access Road project. The Municipality must pass Resolution No. AR 2013-244, which appropriates State of Alaska grants to various municipal funds and departments.
