The end is near for the 2015 Legislative Session. Per usual, the gridlock starts as legislators scramble to negotiate for priority issues. This year I expect there to be significant stand offs between the House, Senate and governor over education funding, Medicaid expansion and the future of the gas line.

NEWS: Ten Days Left in Session - Still No Erin’s Law

JUNEAU – There are now 10 days left in the first session of the 29th Alaska Legislature but there is still no movement on legislation to implement Erin’s Law in Alaska. Erin’s Law has been proven in many other states to prevent child sexual abuse by requiring public school districts to offer prevention curriculum.

Rep. Drummond’s Dispatch: Your Opportunity to Testify on the Operating Budget!

I serve on three Finance subcommittees which passed recommended budgets for the Department of Corrections and the departments of Revenue and Administration. NEWS: Legislation to Honor Veterans with Bravery Award License Plates Passes First Committee of Referral

Juneau – Today, the House Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee passed House Bill 61 to allow the Department of Motor Vehicles to produce specialty license plates for recipients of the Bronze Star, Silver Star and other meritorious awards involving valor in battle. Current law leaves out license plate designations for a number of important combat related medals.

News: Creamer’s Field Expansion Moves from House Resources Committee
February 11, 2015
Juneau - The House Resources Committee unanimously moved House Bill 70 to expand the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge out of committee today. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) and Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), would add four state-owned parcels to the popular Fairbanks refuge.
