In the wake of extremely low oil prices (about $30 per barrel on the West Coast) and leveling off of production on the Alaska North Slope, the state has seen a sharp reduction in revenues from oil and gas combined with a drastic increase of tax credits to the industry.

NEWS: Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Leader Praises Ruling Invalidating Anchorage LIO Lease

Juneau – Today, a Superior Court judge invalidated the Alaska Legislature’s expensive no-bid lease for the Anchorage Legislative Information Office. Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition (AIDC) Leader Rep. Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) praised today’s ruling.

NEWS: House Resources Committee Misses Opportunity to Help Close $4 Billion Budget Gap

Juneau – Much of the savings associated with Governor Bill Walker’s proposed reform to Alaska’s flawed and overly expensive oil and gas tax credit system has been lost because of the actions of the House Resources Committee. House Bill 247 was passed out of the committee tonight. The original bill was significantly altered by members of the House Majority to remove $450 million in savings and new revenue.
