Rep. Wool’s Newsletter: It feels like déjà vu around here…
I’m writing you from Juneau again, and it feels like déjà vu – we’re here past our 90 day limit again. In many ways I’m not surprised, as we’re talking about a lot of major issues this year: restructuring the Permanent Fund, income or sales taxes, reforming our oil tax credits, making significant changes to our Medicaid program, and an overhaul of our crime laws. I hoped we could finish in 90 days, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I am committed to staying as long as it takes to craft a real solution, because we cannot afford to kick the can down the road another year. My goal has always been to support a long term, comprehensive fiscal solution, and I spoke about that at a press conference earlier this month.

Rep. Tarr’s Newsletter: End of Session & Update on the Budget
A lot has happened over the last 7 days! While I wish I was writing you to say that we’ve completed our 90-day Session and will be heading home tomorrow, that is sadly not this case. As 5:00 p.m. rolls around there’s still a long list of bills to hear and vote for on the Floor, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be packing up and heading north tomorrow. NEWS: Indigenous Peoples Day Legislation Passes House State Affairs Committee
Juneau — Today, the House State Affairs Committee passed legislation introduced by Representative Harriet Drummond (D-Anchorage) to designate Indigenous Peoples Day in Alaska. The bill now goes to the House Rules Committee to be scheduled for a vote on the floor of the Alaska House of Representatives.
