Rep. Josephson's Newsletter In this edition of my e-news I want to bring your attention to a piece of legislation that I introduced today. As many of you undoubtedly know I love to view Alaska in all of its natural glory. I have traveled all over the state and I can say that no matter where you go you will find something that will make you stop and reflect. It is because of this love for Alaska that I introduced House Joint Resolution 12 to help heal the old wounds of the 1989 Exxon disaster and finally clean up our coastlines.

NEWS: Legislation Introduced to Expand the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge

Alaska state and flag JUNEAU - Today Rep. Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) and Rep. Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) introduced legislation to expand the popular Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in Fairbanks. House Bill 70 would add four state owned parcels to the popular recreation area. Rep’s Wool and Kawasaki both cited their personal experiences with the refuge as inspiration for sponsoring this bill.

NEWS: Rep. Gara and Rep.-Elect Ortiz Seek to End Excessive Alaska Student Loan Rates

Alaska state and flag Juneau – Rep. Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Rep.-Elect Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan) are pre-filing legislation to lower Alaska’s exorbitant student loan rate, which negatively impacts students chances for higher education and job training. “We want to give Alaskans an incentive to bring needed job skills back to the state,” said Rep. Gara, who made it through college thanks, in part, to scholarships, work, and low interest loans. “We don’t want high student loan debt to discourage students from staying or returning to Alaska to work.”
