Yesterday the House voted on and passed SB3001, the buyout of TransCanada, by a vote of 39-0. The legislation now goes to the Governor for his signature. The third special session lasted 12 days and featured numerous presentations from the Governor’s cabinet, industry representatives, and state experts. In the end, both the House and the Senate agreed to the Governor’s request for $160 million to increase Alaska’s ownership of the AKLNG project.

NEWS: Task Force Created to Help Implement Erin’s Law and Bree’s Law in Alaska Will Meet Tuesday

ANCHORAGE – The inaugural meeting of the task force created to help implement Erin’s Law and Bree’s Law in Alaska will be held Tuesday, October 13 at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office. The task force was created to provide recommendations to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. Bree’s Law mandates that teen dating violence education be taught in middle schools and high schools in Alaska. Erin’s Law requires school districts teach elementary and secondary school student’s personal body safety information. Erin’s Law, which was championed by Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage), also requires that school staff be trained on how to recognize the signs of child sexual abuse.

Rep. Tuck’s Newsletter: Special Session Update

Recently Governor Walker issued a proclamation calling for a legislative special session to convene in Juneau on October 24 to address two key topics:
First, we will explore putting in place a gas reserves tax on undeveloped North Slope natural gas. Currently, companies purchasing leases from the state have a contractual obligation to bring profitable gas to market. However, without a reserves tax there is little means to enforce this “duty to produce” other than by revoking the leases.

NEWS: Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Welcomes Special Session Focused on Natural Gas Pipeline Issues

ANCHORAGE – On Thursday, Alaska Governor Bill Walker issued a proclamation calling the Alaska Legislature into a special session next month. The governor is asking the Legislature to consider legislation to move a project forward to get the natural gas on the North Slope to market.
