It’s going to be a busy weekend! Although this Fairbanks summer has been up and down with record rains interspersed with beautifully sunny days, we have reached the weekend that everyone looks forward to: Golden Days. In 2014, we have a double-dose of excitement as the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics will take place this weekend as well. I look forward to meeting and visiting with neighbors as we celebrate the Golden Heart City!

FAIRBANKS – Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) will welcome athletes to Fairbanks during the opening ceremonies of the 53rd World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (WEIO) on Wednesday, July 16, at 6:00pm at the Carlson Center.

Today, the House Education committee moved House Joint Resolution 1 (HJR1) out of committee. This resolution would ask Alaskans to vote on changing our state constitution to allow public funds to go to private and religious schools. The problem is that we have no idea what kind of fiscal impact it will have on our public schools because no one has revealed what a voucher system will look like.
