Getting our fair share: Production before Reduction
A key issue this session is getting our fair share for our resources. This week, the Senate and House Democrats introduced a proposal to ensure new production before reduction. I am proud to be a sponsor of HB 111. This bill will strengthen our economy, ensure a fair return on our oil, and get more oil to the market. This bill will protect Alaska’s savings and won’t break the bank while doing it!

Getting more oil in the pipeline is a priority for me…but making sure the benefits of our oil wealth reach you is of equal priority. This means ensuring that money from oil taxes makes it back to our local communities.
Companies Produce, We’ll Reduce-
Naturally, Alaska’s future depends on getting more oil in the pipeline. This week the House and Senate Democrats delivered an alternative (HB 111) to the Governor’s Oil Tax Bill (HB 72). Unlike the Governor’s bill, the Democratic alternative aims to: (1) encourage oil production in new fields, (2) help get new oil out of existing fields, and (3) advance non-tax ways to encourage more oil production.

It’s been a busy week in Alaska’s Capital City! Superintendents, teachers, parents and students from all around the state traveled to Juneau to talk about the importance of education funding and let legislators know what is working in their region of the state.
It was enlightening to listen to the issues that are unique to the public school systems outside of Anchorage, and I look forward working with Alaskans to better our children’s education.
