As many of you undoubtedly know I love to view Alaska in all of its natural glory. I have traveled all over the state and I can say that no matter where you go you will find something that will make you stop and reflect. It is because of this love for Alaska that I introduced House Joint Resolution 12 to help heal the old wounds of the 1989 Exxon disaster and finally clean up our coastlines.

Claman's Alaska Matters The budget and the legalization of recreational marijuana continue to be big themes this legislative session. The Legislature is waiting for Governor Walker’s detailed budget so we can start discussions and make decisions about program funding. Look for a survey in your mailbox that asks questions like, “What should be the Legislature’s top priorities in funding governmental services?” In the meantime, feel free to call or email me with your comments and suggestions.

Rep. Josephson’s Newsletter: First Real Week of Session

Rep. Josephson's Newsletter The first real week of session is coming to a close and what an informative week it has been. Every legislator is assigned to various subcommittees to discuss department budgets. I have the privilege of sitting on four of these subcommittees: University, Law, Natural Resources, and Environmental Conservation. At these meetings we get an overview of their budgets and see how and where they spend their money. These subcommittees generally meet through the month of February before closing out and joining together to form the FY16 Operating Budget.
