Rep. Josephson’s Newsletter: Back in the Classroom

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I have spent much of the past few weeks in the classroom, exploring our local elementary schools and middle school; this month I am visiting East High School. Through these visits I have learned about capital project priorities and general budgetary priorities for specific schools, as well as our public education system as a whole. It’s been a nostalgic time for me recalling previous years spent as a high school teacher in the Kuspuk School District in the early ‘90s. The kids in our classrooms are our future, and I believe that it’s up to us to provide them with meaningful, wide-ranging, and rigorous public educations.

Today, the Alaska Chapter of the American Planning Association honored Representative Les Gara and the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation with its Best Practices Award for their work on legislation to promote vibrant neighborhoods and desirable businesses in low and middle income residential developments.

NEWS: It’s “Unconscionable”: Democratic Legislators Decry Governor’s Decision to Reject Medicaid Expansion

Today, Representative Andy Josephson and Representative Geran Tarr offered the following statements in response to the governor’s decision not to accept the federal government’s offer to expand Medicaid coverage to all Alaskans making less than 138% of the federal poverty level and instead to study the issue for another year.
