NEWS: Legislators to Attend Dedication of New Northeast Fire Station

Legislative funding leads to new station, increased safety for Northeast neighborhoods

On Saturday, the Northeast Anchorage legislative delegation will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Muldoon Fire Station #6 in East Anchorage. Senator Bill Wielechowski and Representatives Max Gruenberg and Pete Petersen secured $6 million in state backing for this project in 2010. Replacing the outdated Fire Station #6 building has long been a top priority for the Northeast Anchorage area, and, as stated in the Municipality of Anchorage’s press release, the new station will be a “symbol of pride for years to come.”

Rep. Petersen’s Report from the Capitol: Muldoon Fire Station Open; Turning Waste Into Energy

Muldoon Fire Station 6 is open and operational! The dedication will be October 27th, from 1-4pm at 1301 Patterson St and I hope you’ll join me there.

The new station is located near Begich Middle School on Debarr to serve the Muldoon area. The new location will improve response times, which is important because every minute counts during an emergency. Senator Wielechowski and I worked hard to secure funding for the new fire station and we couldn’t have done it without strong support from the community. Thank you for making our neighborhoods safer!

Rep. Petersen’s Report from the Capitol: Wind Storm Recovery Update - Appreciating the Crews and Improving Emergency Response

I just wanted to let you know the National Weather Service is predicting another storm for this weekend. It’s not supposed to be as severe but it’s still important to be prepared.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the 2rd Annual Spirit of Muldoon Picnic. I was honored to serve my neighbors and constituents burgers and brats at the proposed future site of the Muldoon Town Square Park. I was especially impressed the number of East Anchorage residents who donated emergency supplies like batteries, candles, canned food, and ice to help their neighbors at the Spirit of Muldoon picnic, despite having less than 24 hours to organize this supply drive.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am asking you to help me help our neighbors. I am organizing an emergency supply drive to get ice and supplies to people who are affected by the power outage.

Much of East Anchorage is still without power, and unfortunately it looks like some neighborhoods might not be getting power restored until this weekend. I am also without power, and I have heard from many neighbors who are really hurting.

NEWS: Rep. Petersen Comments on Resolution of Cook Inlet Gas Dispute

Legislator pleased, but wants future guarantees that Alaskan gas goes to Alaskans first

Today, Representative Pete Petersen (D-Anchorage) released the following statement upon news that the Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage Alaska (CINGSA) and Marathon Oil Company have resolved their dispute over gas supplies for the Kenai gas storage facility.

“I’m pleased that Marathon and CINGSA resolved their dispute, but this whole issue shows how important it is that we have guarantees that Alaskan gas goes to Alaskans first,” said Rep. Petersen. “It’s important Alaskans have firm commitments that our gas will be there to meet our energy needs first so we can grow local businesses and plan household budgets with confidence.”
