“Say No To Frankenfish” Legislation on the Move
Today, the House Fisheries Committee moved a resolution urging the federal government not to approve the sale of genetically modified salmon, often referred to in Alaska as “Frankenfish.” Sponsors of the legislation ( HJR 8 ) were pleased the committee saw it fit to allow the resolution to continue on the path to final passage. Afterward, they reiterated the importance of maintaining the purity of Alaska’s wild fish stocks.

[BILL] HJR8: OPPOSE GENETICALLY ENGINEERED SALMON
House Joint Resolution 8 (HJR8) is introduced to urge the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to deny any application to sell genetically engineered salmon in the United States. HJR8 also calls on Congress to enact product labeling requirements that include the words “Genetically Modified” which are prominently displayed on the package if the application is approved by the FDA.
