NEWS: Democrats to Hold Public Hearing on Erin’s Law to Address Alarming Rates of Child Sex Abuse in Alaska

JUNEAU – The First Special Session of the 29th Alaska Legislature is underway and one of the items before lawmakers is legislation to implement Erin’s Law. The law would require youth be taught a personal body safety curriculum that gives them information to keep them safe from child sex abusers. Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) has sponsored Erin’s Law legislation for the past two years and is pleased Governor Walker included it on the call for the ongoing Special Session.

NEWS: Smaller Permanent Fund Dividend If Budget Spends From Permanent Fund Earnings Reserve

ANCHORAGE - Today Rep. Les Gara released a report from the Legislature’s non-partisan Legal Research Division. It shows that if Legislators were to spend from the Permanent Fund’s Earnings Reserve, that would reduce Permanent Fund Dividend payments received by Alaskans. Some legislators have mentioned this as an option to paying for this coming year’s budget, which is a subject of the current Special Session.

NEWS: Democrats Host Legislative Town Hall Meeting to Focus on Getting the Job Done

FAIRBANKS – Representatives David Guttenberg (D-Fairbanks), Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks), and Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) are holding a town hall meeting to discuss the current state of affairs during the first Special Session of the 29th Alaska Legislature. Topics will include the budget, education funding, senior benefits, and Medicaid reform an expansion. Lawmakers will also provide the opportunity for constituents to weigh in on spending priorities and cuts that should be considered.
