Also, Monday is the deadline to register to vote for the August 19 Primary Election. You can register 30 days before the election, and if you don’t register for the Primary, you can still register 30 days before the November General Election to vote then.

With the summer well upon us, I hope everyone is able to stay dry, warm and safe! I have been traveling around the district listening to and hearing from everyone as I go. I spent some time in Skagway hosting a constituent meeting and speaking before the Skagway Assembly. I also had an opportunity to host a constituent meeting here in Juneau with Senator Egan. I traveled to Gustavus for their Centennial Celebration and toured the Falls Creek Hydro facility and the Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center.

In 2014, we have a double-dose of excitement as the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics will take place this weekend as well. My colleagues and I find ourselves disappointed by the Republican Majority vote to increase spending to $500,000. We need to have functional offices for ourselves and our staff so we can serve our constituents, but I personally think that we have good options already. There is no need, in these tight fiscal times, to spend such an excessive amount of public funds on prettier chairs.
