Rep. Kerttula’s Juneau News: Public Testimony on the Capital Budget
Earlier today, the Senate Finance Committee passed out their version of the capital budget (SB 46), which will be on the Senate Floor tonight. The House has also introduced changes to the House version of the capital budget (HB 107). You have the chance to testify on those budgets tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. before the House Finance Committee on the fifth floor of the Capitol Building.
It’s unusual to have two different versions of the capital budget, but the House will probably put a lot of their changes into the Senate version and that will be the one that is ultimately passed. If you’re interested in a particular project, you may want to come and express your support to the committee.

I am particularly glad that as part of this budget, we deposited $1 billion dollars straight to the state savings account. While Alaska is in a better financial situation than most states, I strongly believe that we need to be fiscally responsible and put savings away for the future.

Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: 27th Legislature Special Session
Lawmakers are in day 22 of the special session and I will remain here in Juneau as a stalemate continues between the Legislature and the Governor. The problem in Juneau continues to be the threat of the Governor’s vetoes in retaliation for the Senate not passing a bill aimed at tax breaks for big oil producers. Though things are moving slowly, negotiations between leadership and the Governor continue and there has been movement.

Rep. Tuck’s Community Connection: Legislative Progress Despite Stand-Off
As the Governor and House and Senate budget negotiators continue their impasse, I’m using the special session to advance concerns critical to Alaska’s energy needs.
While serving on the Special Committee on Energy, we have been working jointly with the Resources Committee to go over the energy projects listed in the Senate’s capital bill. We just finished almost twelve hours of hearings and are now working on our comments to forward to the House Finance Committee in anticipation bill arriving to the House soon.
