The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for another high wind event in Anchorage this weekend! Although forecasts can always change, considering the winds that recently surprised the city, please make sure to do all that you can to prepare. The city has recently issued a statement to let folks know how to prepare. You can find the statement here, on the municipal website.
Keep in mind that if there is a medical or life threatening emergency, you should call 911.

Welcome Back to the Classroom
School is back in full swing, with students from Pre-K to UA resuming their school year routines. This time of year always inspires and reminds me of the important role quality education plays in Alaska. And of course, please be aware of the increase in vehicle and foot traffic around schools and bus stops. Let’s keep our students safe this school year.
Please remember to slow down and beware for flashing yellow lights to keep our kids safe this school year. School zones are marked at 20 miles an hour for safety.

Berta’s Briefings from Rep. Gardner: Back to School Update
With our children back at school, I have been thinking about the beginning of each school year as a chance to make a fresh start with the winds of change. Unfortunately, the intense winds we received across Anchorage last week were a bit too strong – as many of our neighbors are still reeling from the aftermath. Likewise, the Anchorage School District (ASD) is still reeling from budget cuts it was forced to make earlier in the year.

Rep. Petersen’s Report from the Capitol: Helping Our Neighbors Without Power: Please Donate Ice and Supplies
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am asking you to help me help our neighbors. I am organizing an emergency supply drive to get ice and supplies to people who are affected by the power outage.
Much of East Anchorage is still without power, and unfortunately it looks like some neighborhoods might not be getting power restored until this weekend. I am also without power, and I have heard from many neighbors who are really hurting.
