Rep. Kawasaki’s Juneau Note: October News!
Friday October the 18th is Alaska Day! It commemorates the day Alaska was transferred from Russia to the United States. On October 18th, 1867, the Russian flag was lowered for the last time and an American flag was raised for the first of many times. We are blessed to live in this great state (and pick up such a bargain!) Celebrate by doing something Alaskan with friends and family. Go for a hike at Creamer’s Field and notice the leaves changing color, take the kids to Pioneer Park, or learn more about Alaskan history at the UAF Museum!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This morning, Alaska’s online health insurance market debuted. Today, Alaskans can shop online for private insurance to meet the requirements of the new federal health care law. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has become muddled and confusing since its original enactment in 2010. Most recently, rhetoric on the government shutdown and postponement of the law creates even more confusion.
It is my job to keep you informed of your options and educated on the major components of the Affordable Care Act as they take effect in the next year. What matters to me is maximizing the benefit of the ACA for Alaskans.

Rep. Kerttula’s Newsletter: The Affordable Care Act
As the implementation of the Affordable Care Act approaches on October 1, I have heard more and more questions about what will happen. I had just started working on an e-news to address the issue, when I received the following e-news from my good friend Senator Berta Gardner in Anchorage. I’m sharing her e-news with you because it is the best explanation of the Affordable Care Act I have seen.
Thank you for reading my newsletter. I enjoy hearing from you, so please stop by the office, call, write or email me.
