Rep. Petersen’s Report from the Capitol: Wind Storm Recovery Update - Appreciating the Crews and Improving Emergency Response

I just wanted to let you know the National Weather Service is predicting another storm for this weekend. It’s not supposed to be as severe but it’s still important to be prepared.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the 2rd Annual Spirit of Muldoon Picnic. I was honored to serve my neighbors and constituents burgers and brats at the proposed future site of the Muldoon Town Square Park. I was especially impressed the number of East Anchorage residents who donated emergency supplies like batteries, candles, canned food, and ice to help their neighbors at the Spirit of Muldoon picnic, despite having less than 24 hours to organize this supply drive.

Rep. Holmes’ Newsletter: Wind Advisory for this Weekend!

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for another high wind event in Anchorage this weekend! Although forecasts can always change, considering the winds that recently surprised the city, please make sure to do all that you can to prepare. The city has recently issued a statement to let folks know how to prepare. You can find the statement here, on the municipal website.

Keep in mind that if there is a medical or life threatening emergency, you should call 911.

Welcome Back to the Classroom

School is back in full swing, with students from Pre-K to UA resuming their school year routines. This time of year always inspires and reminds me of the important role quality education plays in Alaska. And of course, please be aware of the increase in vehicle and foot traffic around schools and bus stops. Let’s keep our students safe this school year.

Please remember to slow down and beware for flashing yellow lights to keep our kids safe this school year. School zones are marked at 20 miles an hour for safety.

NEWS: Rep. Gruenberg to Attend New Cook Inlet Rescue Boat Christening

Securing funds for new fire department vessel part of commitment to public safety

Today at 3:00 p.m., Representative Max Gruenberg will attend the ceremony to christen the new Anchorage Fire Department rescue boat. Rep. Gruenberg secured $260,000 in the FY 2012 capital budget for the vessel so that the Anchorage Fire Department will have a safer, more effective rescue boat to respond to commercial and recreational emergencies in upper Cook Inlet. In holding with tradition, Rep. Gruenberg’s wife, Kayla Epstein, will christen the boat at the downtown small boat launch near the mouth of Ship Creek at the end of Western Drive.

Berta’s Briefings from Rep. Gardner: Back to School Update

With our children back at school, I have been thinking about the beginning of each school year as a chance to make a fresh start with the winds of change. Unfortunately, the intense winds we received across Anchorage last week were a bit too strong – as many of our neighbors are still reeling from the aftermath. Likewise, the Anchorage School District (ASD) is still reeling from budget cuts it was forced to make earlier in the year.
