Juneau Note from Rep. Kawasaki: Alaska’s Last Territorial Governor
Alaska lost a hero from the battle for statehood today. Territorial Governor Mike Stepovich of Fairbanks passed away last night surrounded by family. He served in the House, the Senate and was appointed by President Eisenhower to the post of Governor in 1957. He was a family man and an accomplished attorney. But the greatest legacy that can be shared, and today mourned, by every Alaskan was his steadfast advocacy in the efforts of Alaska to gain statehood. RIP Governor.

NEWS: Protecting Tourism Assets in Denali National Park
JUNEAU – Today, Representative Andy Josephson (D-Anchorage) introduced a resolution supporting an innovative solution to protecting valuable tourism assets in Denali National Park. The resolution (HCR17) asks the state and federal government to enter in to negotiations over a wildlife buffer conservation easement east of Denali National Park. The easement includes an exchange of state land for federal land of equal value.

NEWS: More Declining Production: Updated Numbers Show Decline Continues at Least to 2024
JUNEAU – Today, upon learning the Alaska Department of Revenue now predicts oil production declines to accelerate through 2024, down to 285,000 barrels per day, Representative Les Gara (D-Anchorage) called on the Parnell administration to provide information about what has changed since its push last session to roll back oil production taxes.
