I just wanted to let you know that, first, Thread’s summer book drive is happening this month. Thread, a non-profit, does great work for families on early childhood education. Also, Monday is the deadline to register to vote for the August 19 Primary Election. You can register 30 days before the election, and if you don’t register for the Primary, you can still register 30 days before the November General Election to vote then.

NEWS: Representative Kawasaki Celebrates Fairbanks Parks
Representative Scott Kawasaki (D – Fairbanks) will host another in his series of summer “Picnics in the Park” Wednesday, July 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the South Fairbanks Park on 23rd Avenue. Rep. Kawasaki has hosted a series of picnics across the city to celebrate the more than 60 free public parks maintained by the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

With the summer well upon us, I hope everyone is able to stay dry, warm and safe! I have been traveling around the district listening to and hearing from everyone as I go. I spent some time in Skagway hosting a constituent meeting and speaking before the Skagway Assembly. I also had an opportunity to host a constituent meeting here in Juneau with Senator Egan. I traveled to Gustavus for their Centennial Celebration and toured the Falls Creek Hydro facility and the Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center.

It’s going to be a busy weekend! Although this Fairbanks summer has been up and down with record rains interspersed with beautifully sunny days, we have reached the weekend that everyone looks forward to: Golden Days. In 2014, we have a double-dose of excitement as the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics will take place this weekend as well. I look forward to meeting and visiting with neighbors as we celebrate the Golden Heart City!
