The legislative session has moved into overtime to finalize the budget. I am disappointed that we were not able to reach an agreement yet, but there is too much at stake to go home before the job is done. At stake is whether the Legislature will adequately fund our schools, allow the Interior Energy Project to go forward, and pass Medicaid expansion and reform that Alaska’s business community has been championing with Governor Walker.

Juneau – The Alaska Legislature has passed legislation sponsored by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) and Representative Scott Kawasaki (D-Fairbanks) to expand the popular Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in Fairbanks. House Bill 70 passed the Senate by a vote of 20-0 and passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 37-1.

NEWS: Alaska Senate Passes Legislation to Expand the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge
Juneau – Today, the Alaska Senate unanimously passed legislation sponsored by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks) to expand the popular Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in Fairbanks. House Bill 70 passed the Senate by a vote of 20-0. The bill previously passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 37-1. HB 70 will now go back to the House for concurrence due to minor changes made during the committee process in the Senate.

JUNEAU- Today, the Senate Resources Committee unanimously moved House Bill 70 out of committee. The bill, sponsored by Representative Adam Wool (D-Fairbanks), seeks to expand the Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge in the Fairbanks area by adding four state-owned parcels.

NEWS: The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition Unites in Opposition to Operating Budget that Harms Kids, Seniors and the Neediest of Alaskans
Juneau – The Alaska House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Thursday night without the support of the Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition. All 13 members voted no because the budget harms seniors and children while protecting corporate interests and unaffordable projects. The Republican budget includes the total elimination of pre-k programs and a significant $32 million cut in funding for K-12 public education. Overall, the budget deficit still remains $3.5 billion. The Alaska Independent Democratic Coalition proposed millions of dollars in spending cuts while supporting efforts to protect education, seniors and kids.
