Today, Representative Geran Tarr (D-Anchorage) introduced two bills aimed at increasing food security in Alaska. One measure would increase the amount of food Alaska agencies buy from local sources, and the second measure would require genetically modified (GMO) food products sold in Alaska to be labeled as such.

NEWS: Anchorage Legislative Caucus Announces Public Meeting Saturday 9am-Noon
Today, Anchorage Legislative Caucus co-chair Chris Tuck (D-Anchorage) invited Anchorage residents to come share their ideas, concerns, and experiences with Anchorage-area legislators in the Alaska state House and Senate this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Loussac Library. In addition to public testimony, the meeting will include brief presentations on ongoing and proposed state projects in and around Anchorage.

Gov’t Regs Not the Place to Make Women’s Health Decisions
Today, democratic legislators Representative Geran Tarr, Representative Beth Kerttula, Representative Harriet Drummond and Senator Berta Gardner spoke out against the governor’s bureaucratic intrusion into Alaska women’s personal health decisions. The Parnell administration recently finalized regulations allowing government bureaucrats to determine which circumstances determine whether a woman’s abortion procedure is medically necessary, a determination previously left to health professionals.
